Wildlife veterinarian and Lab Manager at Mahaliana Labs

About

My name is Santatra Randrianarisoa. I’m a wild veterinarian interested in zoonotic diseases, one health, disease ecology and wild animal conservation. Currently, I am working as a Lab Manager and wild veterinarian at Mahaliana Labs that is a Research and Training Center in Madagascar focusing on molecular biology, one health and wild biodiversity conservation.
I obtained my DVM degree from the Department of Veterinary Science and Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Antananarivo, Madagascar. After that, I went to the University of La Réunion on 2022 for a training on DNA barcoding and phylogenetic analysis. Then, I spent three months as a research scientist at the Duke Lemur Center for lemur hands-on-clinics and research. Now, I am interested in pursuing PhD on how climate change, land use and habitat change impact the occurrence and transmission of zoonotic pathogens in the wild, domestic animals and human (One Health) using different methods such as molecular biology, DNA/RNA Sequencing and phylogenetic analysis.
Besides, I am deeply commited to wild animal conservation especially lemurs and fosa and working as a wild veterinarian give me the great opportunity to work and learn as well on a diverse range of Malagasy animal species such as black and white ruffed lemur (Varecia variegata), diademed and verreaux’s sifaka (Propithecus diadema and Propithecus verreauxi), mouse lemur (Microcebus rufus), wooly lemur (Avahi sp), fosa (Cryptoprocta ferox), native rodents (Eliurus sp) and everything in between and obviously to take care of their health.
On this website, you’ll find valuable insights into the world of wild veterinary medicine, along with resources on wildlife conservation, animal welfare, and tips for aspiring wildlife veterinarians. Whether you’re a fellow conservationist, a wildlife enthusiast, or simply curious about the work of a wild veterinarian, I invite you to explore and join me on this incredible journey to safeguard our planet’s precious wildlife.
Thank you for visiting, and I look forward to hearing from you as well.
Warm regards,
Santatra Randrianarisoa
